Australian Open Recap: Bopanna is the Men’s Doubles Champion, Breaks an Open Era Record at Age 43
—
This year’s Australian Open final saw a Solinco head-to-head on the men’s doubles side. This time, two doubles veterans and Team Solinco athletes vied for the title. Rohan Bopanna and Ebden – the tournament’s second seeded pair – dug deep to overcome the Italian combination Simone Bolelli and Vavassori, 7-6(0), 7-5. With his championship win, Bopanna made history as the oldest man to capture a grand slam title, proving once again that age is just a number.
“I think right now I’m playing my best tennis of my life,” Bopanna said in an interview with the Australian Open press. “The biggest reason for that is also how I’m managing my body, my time.”
It was a historic victory for Bopanna, who had played in the Australian Open 17 times before capturing his first grand slam title at the Australian Open this year.
Congrats are in order for Team Solinco’s Simone Bolelli for his incredible performance in his run to the final. Eight years ago, Bolelli won the Australian Open with Fabio Fognini, the only Italian pair to ever win a slam together. At 38, he continues to go the distance in the biggest tournaments in the world with no signs of slowing down. Yannick Hanfmann also reached the semifinals, but fell short against the formidable Italian team.

Congratulations to our champion, runner-up, and all athletes from Team Solinco for another unforgettable tournament!
